An unusual gin aimed at beauty conscious boozers has gone on sale in the UK. The new twist? Collagen.
Along with the anti-ageing botanical flavourings of juniper, cardamom, star anise, pink grapefruit, fresh orange and angelica root, the aptly named CollaGin from Young In Spirit is also distilled with collagen.
A fibrous protein that’s a key component of our skin, collagen is already included in a wide array of beauty creams for its “nonessential” amino acids, like sleep-boosting glycine. However, Young In Spirit founders Liz Beswick and Camilla Brown contend that sipping collagen, rather than applying it topically or injecting it, provides the entire body with the building blocks it needs to support the creation and repair of the body’s connective tissues – a process that starts to break down once you hit your mid-20s.
So, you can be sure that the new gin will become a firm favourite with those looking to enjoy a cocktail or three on a Friday night with just a little less guilt.
The 50cl bottle CollaGin will be available soon for £34.99 from DrinkSupermarket, and Young In Spirit hope to follow it up with a a series of other health-inspired spirits in the future. As they say themselves “the dream is to open our own boozy spa with a distillery in the back”.
