McDonald’s Big Mac is one of the most iconic fast food sandwiches, with some economists using it as a basis for wealth comparison around the world, and for a limited time Australians will be able to replicate its taste at home by buying tubs of its ‘special sauce’.

The sauce is a blend of mayonnaise, relish, vinegar, mustard, onion, garlic and other ingredients, with one of McDonald’s top chefs creating a video guide for how to make it fresh at home, but this is the first time it will be offered for sale on its own.

Australian burger lovers are able to pick up a 25ml tub of the sauce for 50 cents (£0.26) from 960 of its restaurants until stocks last.

Alongside the tubs of sauce, McDonald’s Australia has also put 200 500ml bottles of it up fora charity auction on eBay, where bids for the first bottle have already reached AU $23,000 (£11,940) with eight days still to go.
