The BBC has decided to halt the filming of Top Gear and scrap the rest of the series following allegations that Jeremy Clarkson punched a producer.

The broadcaster has confirmed that the 4-year-old presenter has been suspended and that Sunday’s episode of the popular motoring show will not be shown. The final two episodes of the series are also expected to be scrapped.

Clarkson has not made a public statement or denied the allegations of a “fracas”, but is quoted by The Sun, where he writes a regular column, as saying:

“I’m having a nice cold pint and waiting for this to blow over.”

An online petition calling on the BBC to reinstate the presenter has received over 250,000 signatures.

The fracas is the last in a series of scandals surrounding Clarkson, who has been accused of making racist comments on the show on a number of occasions.
