The London congestion charge will increase form £10 to £11.50 from today.

Transport for London (TfL) has said that the rise will pay for customer improvements next year, including the introduction of direct debit payments.

However, some groups have complained that the congestion charge, which cost £5 per day in 2003, is not working to bring down traffic in the capital, with drivers in London spending an average of 82 hours in traffic last year, a rise of 10 hours of 2012.

Fleet customers and drivers who use the Congestion Charge Auto Pay system will pay a discounted rate of £10.50 per day under the new fee structure.
