Police in Mexico have arrested a man who lost control of his pet hippo after letting it out for a walk in the park.

Video footage has emerged of a young hippo walking the streets of Tlajomulco de Zuniga in central Mexico, much the the bafflement of local residents.

Police managed to round the half-tonne animal back into its cage, and arrested the man who claimed he owned the hippo despite having no officials documentation to prove it.
