The remains of 25 cats have be discovered in plastic bags hanging from trees in a New York suburb.
Tests on the bodies have shown that the cats all died from blunt force trauma to the head, and a baseball bat, two shovels, and a metal pipe have been recovered form the scene in Yonkers, New York.
Earlier reports that the cats’ bodies had been disposed of in a ritualistic manner have been generally dismissed, with SPCA and Yonkers police investigating whether their deaths had anything to do with recent tensions in the neighbourhood over feeding stations some residents recently set up for the local population of feral cats.
