The £101,100 winning eBay bid for a defunct car that became an unofficial symbol for the recent flooding in Somerset after it became submerged, appears to have been a “joke”
Hubert Zajaczkowski, 21, put his water-destroyed car up for sale on eBay in an effort to raise money for charity, describing it as the “famous flooded seat toledo from somerset” in a “used” and “not working” condition.
The winning bidder refused to pay, saying his bids were intended as a joke, according to the Central Somerset Gazette.
The 17-year-old bidder claimed that he was encouraged to make the fake bids by his 12-year-old brother.
Zajaczkowski has now contacted the two lower bidders, who offered £101,000, in the hope that their bids were genuine in the hope of donating the proceeds to flood relief charity Much Thorn Flood Wings.
