The lead singer of Christian rock metal band As I Lay Dying has pleaded guilty to attempting to hire a hitman to murder his wife.

Tim Lambesis, 33, was arrested in May 2013 after he was caught in a sting operation where an undercover policeman posed as a hitman after he told someone at his gym that he wanted to have his wife killed after she filed for divorce.

The singer told the the supposed hitman that he wanted his wife dead, and gave him her name, Meggan Lambesis, her address, a photo of her, and $1,000 in cash.

Lambesis is currently out on $3 million bail, but faces nine years in prison as part of a plea deal for soliciting murder when he is sentenced in 2nd May.
