A 300-year-old Stradivarius violin worth an estimated $5 million (£3 million) that was stolen in January has been recovered by police in Milwaukee.

The rare instrument, constructed in 1715, was stolen from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s concertmaster in an armed robbery on 27th January, with violnist Frank Almond attacked with a stun gun during the raid.

Milwaukee police found the violin in a suitcase in the attic of a house in the city after teaming up with agents in the FBI’s Art Theft Program, and have reportedly arrested two men, aged 36 and 41, and a woman, aged 32, in connection with the incident.

Almond told the New York Times that the instrument, known as the Lipinski Strad after the Polish violinist who owned it in the 19th century, was found in good condition.
