A man was able to survive for three days in an upended tugboat at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

The tugboat on which Nigerian Harrison Odjegba Okene’s was the cook had capsized, plunging the majority of the crew to their deaths in the Atlantic on in the early hours of the morning on 26th May. However, Okene found a pocket of air trapped within the boat, and managed to survive on this dwindling supply of oxygen for 72 hours in plunging temperatures before being rescued.

Divers were investigating the scene and looking to recover the bodies of those lost at sea when they came across Okene gasping the last breaths of oxygen from his air pocket. The divers had reportedly already discovered four bodies before they came across Okene, making it quite a shock when Okene grabbed the divers arm.

The diver first used hot water to warm Okene up before attaching him to an oxygen mask. He was put in a deconmpression chamber before being raised to the surface.

A religious man, Okene prayed for a miracle and recited the last psalm, also known as the Prayer of Deliverance, his wife had texted him on his mobile phone before the boat sank, and believes that he was saved by divine intervention.
