A family were evacuated from their home after discovering dozens of deadly spiders hatching in the bananas they had just bought from Sainsbury’s.
Speaking to the SUN, Consi Taylor said she saw what she thought was mould on the fruit, but on a closer inspection found out that it was actually dozens of baby spiders hatching on her kitchen table.
Sainsbury’s reportedly originally offered her a £10 voucher for her troubles, but after sending an image to pest control she was told to evacuate her house as it could be infested with Brazilian wandering spiders – one of the most venomous spiders in the world, often described as “banana spiders” due to where they often hide.
Whilst the Brazilian wandering spider’s venom contains a strong neurotoxin, there is a common anti-venom to combat its effects.
Sainsbury’s has since apologised to the Taylor family and paid for them to stay in a hotel while their house is fumigated and cleaned.
