Seven people were mauled to death by bulls across Spain during the summer festivals, including four over the last weekend.

The deaths occurred during the bull-running festivals, which are celebrated throughout the country.

The fatalities included a town councillor at Penafiel, a teenager in Lerin, and others in the regions of Valencia, Murcia, Toledo, Castellon and Alicante.

The running of the bulls is a separate tradition from the controversial bull fighting that still goes on in much of Spain. However, attendance to the bull fights has fallen in recent years, and public opinion has resulted in the tradition being banned in the Canary Islands.
