Two British women have died from drowning on the Spanish island of Tenerife while trying to save two children.

Relatives Uma Ramalingam, 43, and Barathi Ruvikumar, 40, were attempting to save two children aged 10 and 14 from the sea when they got into trouble off the Playa Paraiso coast.

The children and a third women were rescued by helicopter and taken to hospital and were not reported to be seriously injured.
