The driver of the council bin lorry that crashed in central Glasgow on 22 December, killing six people, has said that he had no memory of the incident.

Writing in Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper, Harry Clark, 58, said that he appreciated that the families of those that died in the accident were looking for answers, but that he was unconscious and could not remember the accident.

Erin McQuade, 18, and grandparents Lorraine Sweeney, 69, and Jack Sweeney, 68, all from Dumbarton, Gillian Ewing, 52, from Edinburgh, and Stephenie Tait, 29, and Jacqueline Morton, 51, both from Glasgow, lost their lives when Clark’s bin lorry careered into pedestrians on Queen Street in Glasgow’s George Square on 22 December.

The driver, who fell unconscious at the wheel from an undiagnosed heart condition, continued:

“Nothing will ever be normal for the families or me ever again. I think of everyone every minute of every day”

Police have concluded their investigation into the crash and have submitted their initial report to prosecutors who will decide how to proceed.
