Morrisons has banned the use of £2 in their self-service checkout machines after they found that some customers had been paying with low value foreign coins of a similar weight.

The supermarket firm found that some customers in its West Midlands stores were using Iranian 250 rial coins, worth around half a penny, and Thai 10 baht coins, worth about 18p, instead of the £2 coins.

In response to the scam, the company has now temporarily banned all customers using the self-service checkouts at their West Midlands stores from paying with £2 coins until they can update their machines to resolve the issue.
