A bright purple jellyfish with multiple mouths that was discovered washed up on a beach in Queensland, Australia may be a new species, say scientists.

The electric purple jellyfish, which has metre-long oral arms covered in tiny microscopic mouths, was discovered by lifeguards from Coolum Beach Surf Club on Wednesday morning, and immediately handed over to researchers at nearby Underwater World. However, the jellyfish has confounded scientists, according to the Guardian.

The species has not yet been given an official name, but Jamie Smith, the lifeguard who made the original discovery, has joked on social media that he is pushing for the “Jellysmith”.
