A faulty water heater flue pipe was the cause of the deadly carbon monoxide leak in a New York mall that left one man dead and sent 27 people to hospital.
Steven Nelson, 55, the restaurant manager at Legal Sea Foods, was found unconscious in the basement of his restaurant at Walt Whitman Shops on Long Island on Saturday night, and was pronounced dead at hospital.
The fire services said that the ventilation systems in the basement of the restaurant circulated the deadly but odourless fumes.
Roger Berkowitz, president and CEO of Legal Sea Foods described Nelson as part of the “family” and that his death should be “a wakeup call for commercial businesses” about fitting carbon monoxide detectors according to Fox News.
