Two Israeli teenagers have been found guilty of the abduction and murder of Palestinian teen Mohammad Abu Khdair in Jerusalem in 2014.
The verdict on the alleged ringleader, 31-year-old Yosef Haim Ben David, has been postponed until a psychiatric evaluation had been carried out.
The 16-year-old Khdair was brutally murdered in an apparent revenge attack for the murder of three Israeli teens by a Hamas militant in the West Bank. The killings soon escalated into the cycle of violence that lead to the Israeli invasion of Gaza.
In their ruling, the judges found that Khdair appears to have been targeted at random as he stood on a road in the Shufat district of East Jerusalem. He was bundled into a car driven by David and then severely beaten by the two Israeli teens on the back seat. One of the teens then doused the young victim with petrol before David lit a match and set him on fire while he was still alive.
Khdair’s body was found in a forest in West Jerusalem on 2 July 2014, two days after the bodies of the Israeli teenagers abducted and murdered by Hamas militants were found.
