A mobile phone video has emerged online that appears to show Islamic State (IS) militants torturing and abusing a 14-year-old Syrian boy.

The mobile phone footage was filmed and later smuggled out of Syria by an IS defector. It shows 14-year-old Ahmed, hung by his hands from the ceiling, being beaten and whipped by two jihadist militants dressed head-to-toe in black. One militant walks around the boy with a knife and a pistol, while the second carries an AK47.

Over a period of two days, Ahmed was whipped, electrocuted, and beaten, while being held prisoner by the jihadists.

In an interview with the BBC, he explained how the militants used Islam as a cover for their abuses.

He said:

“They pretend they’re religious, but they’re infidels. They used to smoke. They pretend to be enforcing the rules of Muslims, but they’re not. They hit and kill people.”

The UN has accused IS and other militant groups in Syria, as well as the Assad regime, of torturing and killing children.
