Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has urged restraint from both sides after the deaths of four teenagers sparked protests calls for retribution across Israel and Palestine.
Netanyahu condemned the “despicable murder” of 17-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdair and vowed to find the perpetrators, reminding people:
“Israel is a law-abiding state and everyone is obliged to act according to it”
His comments follow those of Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who earlier condemned the “horrible and barbaric act”.
Hamas has blamed the Israeli state for the murder and warned that they will “pay the price”, according to AFP.
Israel blames Hamas for the kidnap and murder of the three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank that caused the original flare up in tensions. However, security forces have been unable to locate the two men they allege were behind the attack despite the arrest of around 40 other Hamas-connected individuals.
