Palestinians have accused Israel of bombing a house just minutes after a seven hour humanitarian ceasefire came into effect at 10:00 local time (07:00 GMT).

Israel announced the ceasefire, without any reciprocal offer from Hamas, but said it was limited in scope and did not include the southern town of Rafah on the Egyptian border.

However, Palestinian officials say that Israel broke its own truce within minutes by striking a house in Gaza City.

The ceasefire comes after at least 10 civilians were killed on Sunday in an Israeli strike on a UN-run school being used as a shelter in Rafah, causing international outrage.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said the attack on the school a “moral outrage and a criminal act”, while French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said that Israel’s right to security “does not justify the killing of children and the slaughter of civilians.”

Prime Minister David Cameron said the UN was “right” to condemn the attack and the “appalling loss of life”, but blamed Hamas rocket fire for the continuation of the conflict, in an interview with the BBC.

Earlier, Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has confirmed that they were “extremely close” to completing their mission to destroy a network of tunnels beneath Gaza and that they had begun withdrawing some troops.

More than 1,800 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in the four-week conflict, with 64 Israeli soldiers and two Israeli civilians also losing their lives.
