Three people have died and 17 people have been injured after a giant truck spun out of control at a monsteer truck rally at Haaksbergen in the Netherlands.
A man, a woman, and a boy were killed after a 1,500 horsepower “monster truck” with tractor wheels drove into the crowd, crushing a number of spectators.
On Monday, Haaksbergen town mayor Hans Gerritsen confirmed the deaths, saying:
“It is my great sorrow that I inform you that a third victim is deceased as a result of the accident in Haaksbergen on the evening of Sunday September 28. The three fatalities were a young boy, an adult male and an adult female. The families have been informed.”
Seventeen onlookers required medical attention, with five described as currently in a critical condition in hospital.
The driver of the truck is reported to have been arrested on charges of manslaughter.
