A gunman is reported to have taken five hostages at a kosher supermarket in eastern Paris.

Le Monde is reporting that shots were fired at a Hypercasher supermarket in Porte de Vincennes, and quote a source at the Interior Ministry that one or more hostages have been taken.

French media are reporting that five women and children have been taken hostage, although this has not been confirmed.

AFP reports that two people have been killed in the unfolding situation.

The gunman is reported to have two AK47’s and told police that “you know who I am”, before going on to explain:

“I’m going to keep these hostages until siege in Dammartin is lifted”

A large number of armed police have arrived on the scene including members of the elite GIGN, and are surrounding the supermarket with a helicopter flying overhead.

Traffic is being redirected away from the area.

French police have said that they believe the gunman in the supermarket to be the same man, identified as 32-year-old Amedy Coulibaly, who is suspected of shooting and killing a policewoman on Wednesday. Authorities have also identified Hayat Boumeddiene, 26, as possibly being involved in the attack.

Reports of a third incident at Trocadero Square near the Eiffel Tower in central Paris was a false alarm.
