A gunman has opened fire at a restaurant in the Czech Republic, killing eight people and injuring two before killing himself.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, started “shooting indiscriminately” in a restaurant in the eastern town of Uhersky Brod shortly after 13:00 local time (12:00 GMT).

Armed police entered the restaurant at around 15:30 local time (14:30 GMT) and found the bodies of the shooter alongside seven other men and one woman. Two other people were reportedly wounded in the attack.

No motive for the attack has been established, but the gunman did call Czech television channel Prima TV shortly before the incident saying that he was going to solve his problems in his own way.

Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec said the incident was “not a terrorist attack, but the act of a deranged individual”.
