An English cyclist has died after being struck by a van in a desert region of southern Bolivia.
Greta Sharon Bridgnan, 39, is reported to have been cycling with her husband in a remote region of Bolivia’s Atacama Desert, near the Chile border, on Saturday afternoon when she was hit by a van, according to AP.
The Atacama Desert, which includes parts of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru is believed to be the oldest and driest desert on earth, and a location that has experienced “extreme hyperaridity” for more than three million years.
The Desert is probably also the oldest desert on earth and has experienced extreme hyperaridity for at least 3 million years, making it the oldest continuously arid region on earth. It is a major tourist attraction for visitors to that region of South America.
