A pregnant woman was left suffering from severe injuries after her boyfriend tried to blow her up with a gas cannister.

Suffering from paranoia, Li Moulian, 36, allegedly kidnapped Xu Fan, 21, in the middle of the night claiming she tried to kill his parents. He then reportedly tied a gas cannister to her back and lit it when when police arrived on the scene in Mazhuang New Village, Guangdong Province, China, causing an explosion.

The couple were both hospitalised with severe injuries.

Li Moulin is not expected to survive, but Xu Fan and the baby are expected to make a recovery.
