Tensions are rising in Israel and Palestine after the murder of four teenagers, three Israeli and one Palestinian, over the last week.

The funeral of 17-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdair, who was murdered in an apparent ‘pricetag’ or ‘revenge’ attack earlier this week, has been delayed due to a row between his family and Israeli police as to when his body will be released.

Authorities warned that violent clashes between Israelis and Palestinians were expected after the funeral, which was due to take place at around 13:00 (10:00 GMT) after noon prayers, with Palestinians widely blaming the teen’s death on Jewish settlers looking for revenge.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on both sides not to escalate tensions further and avoid taking “the law into their own hands”.

Overnight, Israel targeted 15 “weapons manufacturing sites as well as training facilities” in Gaza with air strikes in response an increase in mortars and rockets being fired over the border into southern Israel in recent days.

Palestinian authorities say that ten people were injured and need hospital attention in the air strikes.
