At least 90 people have died in a blaze at a petrol station in Ghana’s capital, Accra, officials say.

Two days of heavy rains and flooding have left thousands of people homeless in Accra, with local media reporting that dozens of people were sheltering from the elements at the petrol station when the fire broke out.

The weather hampered rescue efforts, and there are fears that the death toll may rise as more bodies are recovered.

President John Mahama praised the work of the rescue teams in a visit to the site of the burnt-out petrol station.
