Heavy rains and thunderstorms have been forecast for many parts of the UK, with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning.

The stormy weather is expected to affect southern, eastern, and central areas of England on Saturday afternoon, with the weather then moving north and spreading to Wales and Scotland throughout Sunday, bringing 19 consecutive days on sunshine to an end.

South-east England is expected to receive 30mm of rain within an hour, the heaviest of rains expected throughout the storm. In its statement on the warnings, the Met Office said:

“The public should be aware of the risk of localised disruption to travel, due to surface water flooding and lightning strikes.”
