Thousands of people paid their respects to the British servicemen who have given their lives in conflicts since the start of the First World War as the UK fell silent for two minutes at 11:00 GMT.
Army cadet Harry Hayes, 13, planted the final poppy at the installation at the Tower of London before saluting with members of the armed services past and present during a rendition of the Last Post. 888,246 ceramic poppies currently fill the moat of the Tower in remembrance of those that gave their lives for the freedom of their brother and sister, friends and families.
Ceremonies were held in towns and cities across the country, including Westminster Abbey, the Cenotaph, Trafalgar Square, and the Field of Remembrance in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens.
In Glasgow, a plaque was unveiled at Central Station which reads:
“On these platforms, in two world wars, hundreds of thousands of servicemen and women said good-bye to their families, some for the last time.”
