A man who ran over a policeman in a stolen pick-up truck during a car chase, has been found guilty of manslaughter.
Clayton Williams, 19, struck PC Dave Phillips, 34, during a high-speed pursuit in Merseyside in October, when the stolen red Mitsubishi pick-up truck he was driving mounted the central reservation on Wallasey Dock Road North, Wallasey.
The police officer and father of two had been attempting to stop the truck by setting up a tyre-puncturing “stop stick” or “stinger” device.
Phillips was rushed to Arrowe Park Hospital, but was pronounced dead from his injuries shortly afterwards.
Williams was cleared of the murder of Phillips, but convicted of manslaughter at Manchester Crown Court.
