Human remains have been discovered washed up on a beach at Weston in Hampshire.

A dog walker found the remains at around 08:25 on Sunday morning and quickly informed police who quickly sealed off the area in order to examine the scene.

The police have released few details about the find to date, with the age and sex of the remains currently unknown.

The police are currently scouring missing persons reports to look for anyone that may fit with the clues they find about the death of the person.

A post-mortem has been scheduled to determine the cause of death and to help figure out how the remains ended up on the beach near Southampton.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police said:

Whilst there is nothing at this time to indicate this is suspicious, officers will keep an open mind until results of the post-mortem are known and whilst inquiries continue.

Part of the foreshore will remain cordoned off whilst the area is searched. It will be reopened as soon as possible.
