Dozens of flights have been delayed or cancelled by poor visibility caused by thick fog at airports across the UK for the second day.

London City airport has closed to all inbound and outbound flights, while Heathrow has cancelled more than 45 flights and said that it expects the disruption to last until Tuesday.

Earlier, the Met Office recorded visibility at Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Luton airports at 100m, and 150m at Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick and Doncaster Sheffield.

Passengers have been advised to expect major disruptions and to contact their airlines before travel.

On the roads, drivers have been asked to slow down and maintain and safe distance from the car in front in order to reduce the risk of accident.

Highways England warns:

“Road users will need plenty of extra time to do their usual commute, especially as the fog is expected to lift very slowly during the morning.”
