A former BBC Radio 4 announcer has accused former BBC Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis of fondling her breasts whilst she was live on air introducing Woman’s Hour.

She told the jury at Southwark Crown Court that she heard him come up behind her in a BBC studio in Broadcasting House when she was in her twenties, and slid his arms around her and started groping her breasts, describing:

“He then put one hand on each breast… he started to move my breasts up and down.”

Travis then allegedly fondled her breasts for around ten seconds whilst she was live on air, and could not scream at him to stop.

She went on to say that she did not report Travis at the time because he was the “big star” and she was still new to the corporation and on probation.

The jury heard that this episode in the 1980s, which Travis reportedly treated as a “prank”, was one of a number of incidents in three decades of Dave Lee Travis, real name David Griffin, targeting women.

Another former journalist told the court of another episode when she was working at Chiltern Radio where Travis put his hand up her skirt and rubbed her thighs, trying to put his finger underneath her underwear before she forcibly stopped him from going any further.

Travis denies all the accusations. The trial continues.
