Musician David Bowie has died at the age of 69 after an 18-month battle with cancer.
Bowie’s death was confirmed in a statement by his son, film director Duncan Jones, who said that he died “peacefully today surrounded by his family” and asked for privacy during his family’s time of grief.
On Twitter, Jones said:
“Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”
Tributes have come in from around the world to the singer well known for hits including Let’s Dance, Space Oddity, Starman, Modern Love, Heroes, and Under Pressure.
Bowie released his final album, Blackstar, on his birthday on Friday. The seven-track record has been well received by critics.
