A wildlife worker from the US was killed by a camel at the Mexican beach resort of Tulum on Tuesday, authorities say.

Rochard Mileski, 60, was found dead on the beach at the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary, which he owned, on early Monday morning.

Trust.org reports that the dromedary camel had escaped from its stable and attacked Mileski, kicking, biting, and sitting on top of him.

Mileski had been involved in monkey rescue and rehabilitation for over 20 years and opened the 2.7 acre sanctuary to provide food and shelter for monkeys that had been previously used in gift shops and restaurants as photo-ops for tourists.
