A pensioners has died after the first floor of her house collapsed under the weight of the heavy clutter she had been collecting in Connecticut, US.

The local postman raised the alarm on Thursday that there may be an issue at the home of 66-year-old Beverly Mitchell after her mail started to pile up.

Police investigated the house and believed that no-one was home, and did not see that the first floor had given way under the amount of clutter in the house, including newspapers, magazines, bottles, and post.

However, Mitchell’s body was finally uncovered on Saturday, having been dead for a week, when an excavator started removing debris after breaking through a wall to gain access.

Mitchell had reportedly refused help from social services.
