A man has miraculously survived plunging 80ft (24m) over a cliff near Brighton in his car at around midnight on Saturday.

The 33-year-old lost control of his Ford Focus on the A259 near Roedean, and went over the cliffs plunging onto the beach below, according to the Argus.

Newhaven coastguard were on hand to lift the man from the beach up the cliffs on a stretcher using specialist climbing rescue equipment, with more emergency services personnel waiting at the top of the cliffs.

The man survived with only minor injuries, much to the surprise of those that saw the wreckage, and received treatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
