A two-year-old boy has accidentally shot and killed his 11-year-old sister with a gun that he thought was a toy at their family home in Philadelphia, US.
According to police, the Goldwire family’s four children were playing together were playing in a bedroom when the toddler pointed a .357 calibre handgun at his sister and pulled the trigger, with the bullet puncturing her heart.
The girl was rushed to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, but soon died of her injuries.
Authorities believe that the gun was brought into the house by the mother’s new boyfriend, and left on top of the fridge, where the children tragically found it and thought it was a toy.
According to NYAGV, between 2005-2010, almost 3,800 people in the US died from unintentional shootings, with more than a third of victims under the age of 25.
