Russian president Vladimir Putin has formally divorced his wife of 30 years Lyudmila, according to the Kremlin.
This official divorce comes after the news of their widely speculated marriage breakup in June 2013.
The announcement of their breakup fuelled rumours that Putin, 61, was preparing to marry 30-year-old Olympic gymnast Alina Kabayeva, but both parties have denied the existence of such a reltionship.
In a short statement, Putin’s press attaché said:
“The divorce has taken place”
