The first television teaser for the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was debuted last night during the season finale of The Walking Dead on US TV network AMC.

The movie is a sequel to the 2011 blockbuster Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and also serves as a prequel to the original 1968 Planet of the Apes movie.

The short clip offers the first glimpse of the ape army, covered in warpaint and riding on horseback.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves and is set for release on 17 July.
