The Human League’s 1980s smash hit Don’t You Want Me has returned to the UK’s music charts after a campaign from Aberdeen United fans.

The song has long been a favourite of Aberdeen FC fans, who regularly honour midfielder Peter Pawlett by singing “Peter Pawlett baby” to its melody. After the club won the Scottish League Cup for the first time in 19 years on Sunday, the supporters have been pushing to make the tune a national hit once more.

The track has already made it to number four in the UK iTunes chart, and now members of the band are showing their support for the campaign, saying on their Facebook page:

“Amazing stuff you Aberdeen FC fans, simply amazing. We do of course wish the Aberdeen fans every success in their campaign to honour Peter by getting DYWM to number one on Sunday.

As we believe the saying goes in Aberdeen – Come On You Reds!”

The band are reportedly looking at playing a live show at Aberdeen if the song makes it to the top of the chart by the weekend.
