People have been evacuated from their homes in south London and a water pipe burst flooding houses with sewage up to 30cm deep.

A burst water mains beneath Clapham Road in Kennington mixed with silt, mud, and other detritus has flooded nearby streets and buildings with filthy, pungent flood water.

Police and fire services are on the scene along with Thames Water engineers, with the water affecting Fentiman Road, Palfrey Place, Trigan Road, South Island Place and Handforth Road.

Thames Water have apologised for the disruption and have been clear to point out that the water, whilst pungent, is not sewage:
