A man who was filmed driving at 62mph with both hands behind his head has been convicted of dangerous driving.
Richard Newton, 36, was caught on police video driving between Whitby and Guisborough on the A171 in August last year with both hands behind his head, whilst a number of other vehicles passed him on the other side of the road.
Newton claimed he was stretching because of a back injury, but the magistrate at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court was not convinced by his story and convicted him of dangerous driving.
Newton has been banned from driving for 12 months, fined £625 in court costs and a victim’s surcharge of £60, and must complete 100 hours of community service.
