At least 14 people have been killed and more than 20 injured in a second suicide bombing in the Russian city of Volgograd in two days.
The bomb was exploded in a packed public trolleybus near a busy market in Volgograd’s Dzerzhinsky district during morning rush hour. The strength of the blast shattered windows of nearby buildings.
The trolleybus suicide bombing comes just one day after 17 people were killed in a suicide bombing at the city’s central railway station.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for either attack.
Volgograd was also targeted by a female suicide bomber in October, where six people were killed whilst travelling on a public bus.
Authorities have tightened security at airports and train stations across Russia, with some fearing that these bomb blasts are the start of a ramp up of attacks to coincide with the world’s attention on Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The city of Sochi is located near to the volatile north Caucasus region of Russia, where a number of Islamist groups are waging gorilla wars of independence.
