The Kenyan military has published the names of four men suspected to have been involved in the Westgate mall terror attack in Nairobi on 21st September where 67 people were killed.

The men named were Abu Baara al-Sudani, Omar Nabhan, Khattab al-Kene and Umayr appeared in CCTV footage from the mall and are believed to have been killed in the military operation to take back the buildings.

The Kenyan military originally said that they believed 10-15 militants were involved in the attack, but more recent information from the Nairobi police has put the number more like four to six.

Somali-based Islamic militant group al-Shabab were behind the attack, claiming that it was in retaliation for Kenyan involvement in the African Union (AU) military force fighting against Islamic militants in Somalia.

Al-Shabab rarely acts outside of Somalia, with some seeing the attack in Kenya a sign of desperation by the group that is slowly losing influence within Somalia. However, it may also be a move by the group to become a group more similar to al-Qaeda that exists as a loose network of groups that has no physical boundaries.
