As it’s Coffee Week here in the UK, we are sharing recipes for different coffee-based drinks each day all week, and today we’re starting of with the rich dessert-esque affogato al caffè.
It couldn’t be easier to make, and is perfect for those warm summery afternoons that we have finally started to see again this year on our shores, with the deep rich espresso contrasting perfectly with the rich, glistening ice-cream.
Ingredients
- 4 small balls of good quality vanilla or chocolate ice cream (make sure it is very cold/hard)
- 2 small cups of very hot, freshly made espresso coffee (preferably a rich, dark roast)
- Springling of demerara sugar, to taste
Instructions
- Scoop a couple of small balls of ice cream and drop them into each coffee cup
- Pour the hot espresso over the ice-cream and sprinkle a little demerera sugar over it to taste
- Serve quickly before the ice-cream melts
