Saturday saw around 12,000 demonstrators marching through London to protest against the British government’s support of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza under claims of “security” as well as calling for an end to the blockade of Gaza.
The march went from Downing Street to the Israeli embassy in Kensington, with the crowd made up of a mixture of young and old, British citizens and foreign nationals, and hijabs mixed with Anonymous masks.
At the Israeli embassy gates, Stop the War Coalition president, Tony Benn, addressed the crowd and expressed his solidarity with Gaza. Other speakers included delegates from the Palestinian town of Jenin, the Egyptian novelist Adhaf Soueif, the Palestinian ambassador to the UK Manuel Hassassian, MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Andy Slaughter, and journalist Seumas Milne.
