Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 45th president of the United States of America.
Few expected the 70-year-old property tycoon could win the Republican nomination or beat Hillary Clinton to become president of the US.
In stark contrast to the message of hope delivered by Barack Obama in 2008, Trump’s nationalist message described a bleak situation for the American people, who he says live in a country plagued by “destruction” and “carnage”.
The contrast between the two presidents and their popularity can be seen by the difference in public attendance of the inauguration.
