Tunisian authorities have arrested a group of people it says is connected to the terror attack at beach resorts in the city of Sousse, which left 38 people dead.
The Islamic State (IS) have claimed responsibility for the attack, where gunman Seifeddine Rezgui killed at least 30 Britons, shooting them while they enjoyed the sunshine on the beach.
Tunisian Interior Minister Mohamed Najem Gharsalli said that the country had deployed 1,000 troops to protect the country’s hotels and beaches.
He said:
“We have started by arresting a first group, a significant number of people, from the network that was behind this terrorist criminal.”
Rezgui is believed to have been the only attacker, but Tunisian authorities say he had accomplices who supplied him with the weapons and logistical support.
Three European ministers have laid flowers at the scene of the attack in a sign of solidarity, and British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that a national minute’s silence will take place on Friday 3 July at noon BST.
